Starting from the 1980s, sustainability has become a topic of great importance all over the world. The basic concept of sustainability is that the planet’s resources are running out and cannot be exploited infinitely. For this reason, sustainable development aims to protect the natural resources through the integrated action of the social, environmental, economic and institutional dimension. This action was aimed to guarantee the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, as indicated by Brundtland Report.
In recent decades, based on the concept of circular economy, attention has been paid to the concept of “reusing”, “adjusting”, “reintroducing” and “recycling”. In fact, “waste” is no longer understood as waste, expensive for those who produce it, but a resource that can give new life to a new product/process. Therefore, project was implemented on these features, thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Management of the “Sapienza” University of Rome and the Department of Sociology and Psychology of the Moi University in Kenya. The project focuses attention on the areas rural with the aim of promoting sustainable economic development by the reuse of biomass waste, to multiplying and accelerating processes to improve the living conditions of the Kenyan population. The text combines the legislative, economic-social and technical-scientific aspects related to the use of biomass in Kenya, highlighting how it is possible to respond contextually both to exploit resources need, aimed at the development of rural populations, as regards the necessity to environmental protection.
